Spartanburg Buddy Walk helps Down Syndrome people

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Spartanburg is holding its annual Buddy Walk to help support people with Down Syndrome and their families.

The event is scheduled for Saturday at the outdoor track at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind.

It is being held as a fundraiser for the National Down Syndrome Society and the group Family Connection, which is a parent-to-parent support network for families of children with special needs. The walk is free, but registrants may sign up as a team and make donations.

The event will also include an “In Loving Memory” segment in which participants may recognize special buddies through photos, cards, or a toy or other remembrance that will be placed on a banner with balloons.
