Anderson woman mails 5 pumpkins each year

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — An Anderson woman is continuing her tradition of mailing pumpkins to her four children and a friend.

The Anderson Independent-Mail reported (http://bit.ly/qmGq5m) that Mary Busey began mailing pumpkins in 1972, when her oldest child left for college. She continued mailing pumpkins as her three other children left home, sending them all a pumpkin in time for Halloween.

This year, she mailed the five 1-pound pumpkins Monday to Atlanta, Charlotte, N.C., Milwaukee, Wis., and another part of Anderson County.

Busey draws on each pumpkin to make them more special. This year, she drew fireworks surrounding the number 40 that was made into a smiling face to mark 40 years of mailing pumpkins.
