Tennessee to Start Freshman QB vs. Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Defensive Coordinator, Ellis Johnson, and his South Carolina defense just got a little more wide-eyed for Saturday’s game at Tennessee. Today Volunteer head coach, Derek Dooley, announced at his Monday press conference he will start freshman Justin Worley at quarterback. “Ellis (Johnson) will be licking his chops either way,” Dooley said. “So what’s the point (in hiding the news)?” Worely, who was suppose to red-shirt this season, was put into last week’s 37-6 loss against Alabama late in the contest. An injury to starting quarterback Tyler Bray, and ineffectiveness of senior Matt Sims (son of former NFL QB Phil Sims) a big reason why Dooley took the red-shirt off his freshman quarterback. Worley has yet to complete a pass in his young college career. Meanwhile the Gamecocks are allowing less than 20 points per game and have racked up 15 sacks against its competition so far in 2011. Kickoff on Saturday between 13th ranked Carolina (6-1, 4-1 SEC) and Tennessee (3-4, 0-4 SEC) is 7:15pm and can be seen on ESPN 2.
