SRS hosting deer hunt for wounded warriors

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) — The company that manages a former nuclear weapons complex near Aiken is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Energy and several other organizations for a two-day deer hunt especially for wounded veterans.

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions’ annual Mobility Impaired and Wounded Warriors Deer Hunt is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Savannah River Site.

The event kicks off Friday night with an afternoon and evening hunt and dinner. On Saturday, there is a morning hunt, followed by a banquet lunch at the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory Conference Center.

Organizers say the hunt is rewarding for participants and the volunteers that help run it.

SRS frequently hosts hunts to help control the deer population at its 310-square-mile complex.
