USC Men’s Soccer Gets Home NCAA Tourney Game

COLUMBIA, S.C. (USC SID) — The South Carolina men’s soccer team earned the 20th NCAA Tournament bid in program history as the 2011 selections to the 48-team tournament were announced Monday afternoon. The Gamecocks (9-7-2) will host the first round of the tournament with Wake Forest (8-7-4) traveling to Stone Stadium for the Thursday night matchup. Kickoff on Thursday is scheduled for 7 p.m.. The winner of the match will play at 14th-seeded James Madison (12-4-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m. South Carolina earned an at-large bid to the tournament after winning the Conference USA regular season title with a record of 6-1-1. Wake Forest earned an at-large bid to the tournament after finishing fifth in the ACC with a record of 4-3-1. South Carolina NCAA Tournament Notables – South Carolina has advanced to the NCAA Tournament 20 times in its history (including 2011). – Carolina owns an all-time record of 16-19 in NCAA Tournament contests, including a 11-11 mark in games played at Stone Stadium. – South Carolina won the Conference USA regular season title. – Mark Berson led his team to the College Cup in the 1988 and 1993 seasons. The Gamecocks advanced to the National Championship game in 1993. Virginia earned a 2-0 win over the Gamecocks in that match – held in Davidson, N.C.
