Clemson Free Falls, USC Steady In BCS Standings

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — While Carolina and Clemson prepare for the annual battle for Palmetto State bragging rights, the Gamecocks are holding steady in the rankings and the Tigers are plummeting. USC held steady at #12 in the latest BCS standings. Carolina improved to 9-2 on the season with a 41-20 win at home against The Citadel over the weekend. The Gamecocks moved up one spot to #13 in the latest Coaches/USA Today Top 25 poll. USC held steady at #14 in the latest AP poll. Clemson plummeted ten spots to #17 in the latest BCS standings. The Tigers, who dropped to 9-2 on the season after a 37-13 loss at NC State over the weekend, dropped to 17th in the Coaches’ poll and 18th in the AP. Clemson’s big drop in the rankings dampers the highly anticipated battle for state bragging rights slightly. The Gamecocks and Tigers haven’t played the annual state championship with both teams ranked in the top 15 since 1987. This Saturday’s game is set for 7:45 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium on ESPN. The game is sold out.
