LEXINGTON, S.C. (WOLO) — Vince Lombardi famously said, “Winning isn’t everything. It’s the only thing.” Lexington Boys Basketball Coach Bailey Harris proves that winning doesn’t have to be the only thing. Harris, the first ABC Columbia MVP, recently won his 500th career game. While that is an impressive number of wins for any coach, it’s not the most impressive thing about Harris. The history teacher makes a point to educate his players off the court as well. The most recent example of that, a quiz on the life of Martin Luther King in the lockerroom. Harris coaches and teaches while also battling diabetes. He was diagnosed as a junior at Presbyterian College in the mid-80’s. Harris promptly went on to set the school record in the 400 meter hurdles the next year as a senior. That record at PC still stands. If you’d like to nominate a local athlete, coach or contributor as an ABC Columbia MVP click on the banner at the top of the main sports page and fill out the form.
