Spurrier Fires Assistant Coach

COLUMBIA, S.C. (USC SID) — University of South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier has informed assistant coach Jeep Hunter that he will not be retained for the 2012 season, it was announced today. Coach Spurrier indicated that he felt the team needed a more experienced secondary coach and has decided to go in that direction. “We wish Coach Hunter and his family the very best,” said Coach Spurrier. Coach Hunter logged three seasons on the Gamecocks‘ staff. He spent his first two seasons in Columbia coaching the tight ends and serving as an assistant special teams coordinator after being hired on Feb. 3, 2009. He moved over to the defensive side of the ball in 2011, overseeing the Gamecock safeties.
