Man dies in SC house fire hours after police call

BELTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 55-year-old man died in a house fire in Belton just hours after police investigated a domestic disturbance at the home.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said it appears Danny Reed died from smoke inhalation. His body was found on the kitchen floor Tuesday morning.

Investigators say the fire was limited to the kitchen and a nearby laundry room and they are trying to determine the cause. Shore says an autopsy has been planned for Reed to verify his cause of death.

Belton Police Chief David Dockins says his officers are trying to determine if the domestic disturbance call is in any way related to the fire.
