Tanner Says Weekend Rotation is Set

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — The start of the 2012 baseball season is eight days away, and while everything isn’t on all cylinders yet for Gamecock head baseball coach Ray Tanner, his weekend starting rotation looks to be set. Tanner announcing today South Carolina will enter the season with the weekend starting pitcher trio of All-Americans Michael Roth and Matt Price. Colby Holmes will be the third in the rotation. Roth, who was the Gamecock ace last season went 14-3, a 1.06 ERA, and 112 strikeouts. Price is moving from the bullpen to the starting rotation. He pitched 59 innings with 20 saves and a 1.83 ERA in 2011. Holmes, who is no stranger to starting games for Ray Tanner, started 13 games last season and finished the year with a 7-3 record and 77 strikeouts. The two-time defending national champion South Carolina baseball team begins the 2012 season on Friday, February 17th at 3pm against VMI in Carolina Stadium.
