Hollings talks about Brown vs. Board of Education

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Former South Carolina governor and U.S. senator Ernest Hollings is speaking on the Brown vs. the Board of Education case that led to school desegregation in the United States.

Hollings witnessed the oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1952. He will speak at the Charleston School of Law on Thursday.

The Brown case was a companion to a similar school desegregation case in South Carolina, Briggs vs. Elliott. Hollings was in Washington as a part of the state’s team of attorneys in the case.

Hollings was governor from 1959 through 1963 and served in the U.S. Senate from 1966 through 2004.
