SC Gov. to Repay Security for Trips

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) _ Gov. Nikki Haley’s administration has agreed to repay the state the $16,000 it cost to provide security during out-of-state fundraising trips she took during the past year. The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reports Haley agreed to repay the money after the State Law Enforcement Division earlier this month provided the newspaper a breakdown of security costs. The Herald-Journal filed a Freedom of Information Act request with SLED in November. State law forbids using state resources for campaign purposes. SLED documented 21 trips Haley took. Seven of those trips, to places including New York and California, included private fundraisers for the Haley for Governor campaign. SLED reports it spent more than $16,000 _ most of that for lodging and meals _ for the security details that accompanied the governor.
