ABC Columbia MVP – Brian Buscher

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Brian Buscher started his ascent to a big league career with an All-American senior season as a Gamecock. Now he’s starting another baseball career in Columbia–this time as a head coach. The former Minnesota Twin and Chicago White Sox third baseman is the new head coach of the high school team at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School. Buscher says he’s using all the coaching tips he learned from USC Head Coach Ray Tanner. Last year, Buscher served as a graduate assistant on USC’s second straight national championship team. After transferring from junior college, Buscher helped Tanner get to his first College World Series in 2002. In 2003, Buscher led the Gamecocks back to Omaha after leading the SEC hitting .393 on the season. He made the All-SEC 1st team that year and was named an All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
