Dreher Flies to 3A State Title

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Kaydra Duckett scored 20 points and Johneisha Myers added 16 to lead Dreher to its first state championship since 2002. The Blue Devils overcame a shaky start to win the girls Class 3A state title with an 82-50 victory over Wade Hampton Saturday night. Dreher (25-1) trailed 12-2 but took the lead for good at 19-17 with 4:50 remaining in the second quarter. The Blue Devils led 28-22 at the half and continued to build on the lead. Their full-court pressure defense wore down the Generals (27-2) and the second half was all Dreher. The Blue Devils outscored Wade Hampton 54-28 in the final two quarters to claim their third state championship title in school history The Blue Devils started four sophomores and one senior and got contributions from 10 players. Nakia Young led the Generals with 17 points and Marilyn Malphrus pitched in with 11.
