Leveraging Literacy

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., — The program is called leveraging literacy, an after school program the Salvation Army hopes will help children who’ve fallen behind in their reading skills a little extra help. The organization is holding open houses all week to tell parents of some of these students more about the program that offers a relaxed learning environment. Organizers say the program is modeled after a successful one which started in Georgetown, South Carolina 10 years ago. The program targets children in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, the most formative years for learning the skills needed to progress. Open houses will be held at the Cecil A. Tillis Family and Training Center at 2111 Simpkins Lane in Columbia. You can stop by to find out more about the program or how to enroll your child between the hours of 3:30 and 5:30 in the evening from March 6th through the 9th and the following week of March 12th through the 16th.
