Ellington on 2012 Spring Roster

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Bruce Ellington apparently had second thoughts on quitting football and playing only basketball. ABC Columbia has learned with WCIV in Charleston that Ellington is considering to come back and play for the Gamecock football team in 2012. Dr. Jerry Brown, who recently accepted the position to be the new Batesburg-Leesville head football coach, coached Ellington in high school at Berkeley high school in Moncks Corner. Brown spoke with Ellington and said Bruce met with USC wide receivers coach Steve Spurrier, Jr. on Saturday. Ellington told Brown he felt it was a mistake to quit football. The meeting with Spurrier, Jr was about the possibility on returning to football. The school sent out a press release last Monday saying Ellington quit football and will only play basketball next school year. The next day head coach Darrin Horn was fired. Ellington told Brown that playing basketball or head coach Darrin Horn being fired had nothing to do with his decision on wanting to come back to football. Ellington returning to the Gamecock football team hasn’t been officially announced. But as of Sunday night his name in listed on gamecocksonline.com on the official 2012 spring roster. The next USC football practice is scheduled for Tuesday at 4:15 pm and is open to the public.
