Gamecocks Drop to 11 in Baseball America Poll
DURHAM, N.C (Baseball America) —In the most anticipated series of the college baseball season so far, Florida went up to South Carolina and won two of three at the two-time defending national champion Gamecocks, as the Gators continued their run at No. 1 in the Baseball America College Top 25 rankings. The top three in the rankings stood pat from last week, with Florida being followed by Stanford and Arkansas, but there was some shuffling in the rest of the top 10. Among those on the move, Florida State bumped up to No. 4 after a 5-1 week, while Texas A&M improved three spots to No. 7 after going out west and sweeping Pepperdine on the road. Kentucky’s undefeated run to start the season came to an end, but the Wildcats still won their series at Tennessee and and climbed to No. 10. The Wildcats are in the top 10 for the first time since May of 2006. Purdue, like Kentucky, improved six spots to No. 19 after winning its series at Ohio State, upping the Boilermakers’ record to 16-4 despite all their games having been played away from home so far. Two teams entered the Top 25, with Baylor returning to the rankings at No. 21 thanks to a series sweep of Kansas. San Diego makes its season debut in the rankings at No. 24, having won its first West Coast Conference series this weekend against Santa Clara and gotten out to a 20-6 start against a quality schedule.
