Columbia police offering Internet safety class

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Columbia police are offering a chance for people to learn how to be safe online.

Chief Randy Scott says his department is helping put on an Internet safety class on Tuesday.

The class is a joint effort with Fast Forward and is part of the state attorney general’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Scott says people who participate in the class will get information on ways to protect themselves and their personal information while using social networking websites and chat rooms.

Participants will also learn about South Carolina’s Internet laws, and officers will talk about how criminals try to exploit Internet users.
