(WOLO) COLUMBIA, S.C., — Governor Nikki Haley declared June, Obesity Awareness Month. A move that has some local nutrition experts singing her praises. Registered Nurse and Certified Nutrition Consultant, Lois Bradley has spent years helping people control their healthier habits. Bradley says, weight issues are one of the most prominent and is becoming a bigger and more harmful problem each year. In 2003, South Carolin spent more than 1 billion dollars in health related medical costs that could have been prevented if people changed how they eat and more importantly, how they live. Bradley says, the health issues associated with obesity can create life long problems such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and even sleep apnea. She says it’s a lifestyle change that begins with planning food, controlling portions and eliminating carbohydrates from your diet.
