9-1-1 Not Only Emergency Option
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — If you are a victim of a crime, you want to know law enforcement will respond immediately. However, calling 9-1-1 isn’t the only way to get them there. Richland County Sheriff’s department reminds citizens there are many ways to report crimes or criminal activity. One is via the Telephone Reporting System, or, TRS. By calling 803-576-3000, you can speak directly to a deputy by phone. If he/she deems your situation warrants an officer responding to your physical location, one will be sent. A second method is by filing an incident report online. By going to www.rcsd.net, and following the prompts, you may provide required information and receive and email of the incident report number and any other updates within three business days. A third method, called Guardian Watch, will allow citizens to capture and upload photos or video on the scene. However, this program is still in the pilot-testing stage. No word yet on when and if it will be unveiled. Deputies remind you to please continue using 9-1-1 in the case of a real emergency.
