Power Restoration Intensified by Heat

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Battling intense heat did cause some problems for South Carolina Electric & Gas work crews; however, workers took regular breaks and stayed hydrated to restore power to thousands of customers left in the dark due to weekend storms. As many as 25,000 customers within SCE&G’s network in the southeastern part of the state were without power after the weekend’s severe weather. By late Monday, a few hundred remained in the dark. Officials credit fast turn-around time to regular tree trimming. They say that allows them to diagnose and fix power outages more quickly. Once the majority of customers in the Palmetto state were back online, 150 contractors were sent northeast to assist with those hardest hit by Mother Nature.
