Midlands WOD Honors Heroes’ Sacrifice
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) — As America celebrates its 236th birthday, some hard core athletes are honoring everyone who wears a uniform, one in particular who served the Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s Region Six faithfully, and also his country. With every dead hang pull up, tire flip and tire jump, every run, every burpee, and every rep, blood, sweat and tears accompanied a hero’s salute in Northeast Richland County. Cross Fit Blythewood and Richland County Cross Fit, two Midlands fitness groups, started out wanting to do something to remember fallen Richland County Deputy and South Carolina National Guardsman, Ryan Rawl, who died recently in Afghanistan. Soon, word spread about the cause. More than 100 folks, old and young, soldier and civilian, came out to the Town Center in Lake Carolina to say thanks, battling through seven workout stations over two miles. These so-called ‘hero workouts of the day (WOD) allow cross fitters to throw themselves into intentionally gut-wrenching workouts that serve as a tribute to our lost protectors. They say it’s the least they can do to show support for military men and women who sacrifice so much for our freedom, while commemorating the Fourth of July.
