Celebrating our Independence

There were plenty of fireworks and and patriotic musical tribute for the crowds who came out for a celebration at Hilton Field on Ft. Jackson’s post. Depending on who you speak with, the fourth has a different meaning. Still, the one thing everyone agrees on is that it’s a day of reflection. Instead of the typical backyard barbeques, people lined up the lawn chairs and picnic blankets to watch fireworks. For many the true meaning of the day runs deeper than the colorful bombs lighting up the night sky. This year, Ft. Jackson honored service men and women who served in the Vietnam era where more than 60 thousand people paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we now have.
