SC Air National Guard to Fly over Part of State

MCENTIRE JOINT NATIONAL GUARD BASE, S.C. (AP) – Members of the South Carolina Air National Guard are scheduled to fly an air defense exercise in the skies over Anderson, Florence and Greer. Guard spokesman Maj. Jim Roth says Thursday’s exercise involves members of the 169th Fighter Wing from McEntire Joint National Guard Base near Eastover. Roth says citizens should not be alarmed if they see F-16 fighter jets from the air wing escorting a single-engine aircraft. The maneuver is part of the routine exercises designed to hone the rapid response capabilities of the pilots and air crews. The McEntire crews are part of the nation’s Aerospace Control Alert mission that responds to potential airborne threats over the United States.
