Marine Stationed in SC Killed in Domestic Dispute

YEMASSEE, S.C. (AP) – Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a Marine stationed in South Carolina. Hampton County Sheriff’s deputies say it happened early Sunday in an apparent domestic dispute. The victim was 34-year-old Staff Sgt. Jerome Carter. Deputies say he was shot at his estranged wife’s home in Yemassee. Witnesses told deputies the alleged shooter drove off in a car and said he planned to turn himself into authorities. The man flagged down deputies about five miles from the shooting scene. Authorities did not say if he has been charged. Carter’s commanding officer, Lt. Col. William Gray, said Carter served 16 years with distinction and will be missed. Carter was assigned to the Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31 at the Beaufort Marine Corps Air Station.
