Man Arrested After Dogs Bound, Tossed Into Canal
GEORGETOWN, S.C. (AP) _ Investigators say a man who taped up the legs and muzzles of three dogs and threw them into a canal targeted animals owned by his daughter and mother-in-law. Georgetown County deputies said 47-year-old Bobby Joe McConnell was charged Wednesday with three counts of ill treatment of animals. Fishermen at a Georgetown canal earlier this month were able to rescue one dog found thrashing in the canal. Two dead dogs were found on shore. Authorities say the dog that survived belonged to McConnell’s daughter and one that died belonged to his mother-in-law. They haven’t determined who owned the third dog. Investigators say McConnell told a witness how he was going to get rid of the dogs. McConnell is awaiting a bond hearing. It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.
