James Island voters go to the polls – again

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Voters in the town of James Island are going to the polls again, and this time the new members of council will be able to keep their seats.

The town elections set for Tuesday come after the town incorporated for a fourth time. The three previous incorporations were tossed out following court challenges from the neighboring city of Charleston.

Charleston Mayor Joe Riley has said the city will not challenge the most recent incorporation.

The new members of town council are to be sworn in on Thursday by Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell.
