Former Midlands Sheriff Pleads Guilty

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO/AP) — Former Saluda County Sheriff, Jason Booth pleaded guilty Monday to a misconduct in office charge. Booth was indicted in June on the charge after officials say he used a a state prison inmate to do work on his home and personal property for nearly 6 years. According to prosecutors, during that 6 year time span, the inmate built an ornate iron gate and “party shed” for Booth in exchange for perks like conjugal visits with a girlfriend. Monday, Booth was sentenced to one year in jail. However, the judge told him he did not have to serve that time if he pays a $900 fine and serves 5 years probation.
