COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — SC Mission 2012 drew thousands of people seeking free medical, dental, and vision care on its first day. Organizers had to stop receiving vision patients because of the demand. This is the second year for the program and serves adults 17 years and older only. The event is scheduled to last through Saturday at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds. SC Mission states services included urgent care, diagnosis of both acute and chronic medical conditions, and health screenings, along with standard dental and vision check-ups and services. The group expects to treat up to 2,000 patients. The event will serve patients again Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Patients should enter through Gate 6 of the fairgrounds, which is on Assembly Street. The parking lot will open at 4:00 a.m. Due to the overwhelming response of patients seeking the services, the organization is asking visitors to plan accordingly because there will be long lines. Patients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Patients are recommended to prioritize which services they desire because officials say because of high demand, patients may not be able to receive all three services.
