Casino boats in N Charleston still on hold

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) _ Almost two years after North Charleston City Council changed ordinances to allow casino boats, the boats have yet to sail. The Post and Courier of Charleston reports (http://bit.ly/MQmJKB ) Mayor Keith Summey says the problem is the economy. Summey says he’s spoken with two groups who were interested in operating the boats, but hasn’t heard from either in the past few months. The boats would sale offshore where gambling is legal. They were expected to generate $700,000 a year for the city. The only other town in South Carolina where casino boats operate is Little River, north of Myrtle Beach at the North Carolina state line.
