AUBURN-DISMUKES ARREST
Auburn center Dismukes suspended after arrest
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn coach Gene Chizik has suspended center Reese Dismukes following the sophomore’s arrest on a public intoxication charge.
Chizik says he is “very disappointed in Reese Dismukes for his irresponsible behavior” Friday night. The suspension comes eight days before Tigers open against Clemson in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.
Chizik did not say how long Dismukes’ suspension would last. The Lee County’s sheriff’s office said that the starter was released on a $300 bond. It did not offer further details.
Dismukes was one of the only certainties on Auburn’s offensive line, which has had competition at several positions. His backup is sophomore Tunde Fariyike.
Dismukes did not return a message seeking comment. He was one of two offensive players to start every game last season at the same position.
CHARGERS-INGRAM HURT
Chargers rookie Ingram leaves with thigh injury
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — San Diego first-round draft pick Melvin Ingram left the Chargers’ preseason game against Minnesota because of a bruised left thigh.
The 18th overall draft pick out of South Carolina went down late in the third quarter Friday night while rushing the passer. He crumpled to the turf and was in noticeable pain as he was helped off the field by two trainers. The Chargers announced he would not return with the thigh injury.
The Chargers were last in the league in third-down defense last season, so they drafted Ingram with their first pick in hopes of bolstering their pass rush to help them get off the field in those situations.
Ingram had 10 sacks as a senior defensive end. He is being moved to linebacker in the 3-4 defense.

Miami moves practice indoors as Isaac looms
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — The looming threat of Tropical Storm Isaac is already affecting the Miami Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes moved Saturday’s practice 35 miles north to the Miami Dolphins’ indoor facility. University officials have closed campus through Monday because of the storm, which is expected to bring high wind and several inches of rain Sunday and Monday.
Miami opens its season at Boston College on Sept. 1. The university said decisions on the week’s practice schedule would depend on what happens with Isaac.
Florida International also has closed through Monday. FIU’s football team wasn’t scheduled to practice this weekend, though the school canceled a Sunday women’s soccer match with Morehead State.
Hurricane watches and warnings are posted for parts of Florida, including the Tampa area, where the Republican National Convention starts Monday.
CLEMENS COMEBACK
Clemens back on the mound at 50
SUGAR LAND, Texas (AP) — Roger Clemens is back on the mound at age 50, striking out hitters again.
Clemens pitched Saturday night for the Sugar Land Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League. He faced Bridgeport and fanned the first batter he faced, former major leaguer Joey Gathright.
The seven-time Cy Young Award winner, who last pitched for the New York Yankees in 2007, worked a 1-2-3 first inning with two strikeouts. His fastball was clocked at 88 mph.
The Rocket hasn’t committed to playing more than one game for the Skeeters, but some believe this is the first step in an attempted return to the majors.
