Phone Scam:Kershaw County Alert

Kershaw Co., SC (WOLO)– The person on the other end of the line may not be who they say they are. Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says they have received a complaint of someone calling residents claiming to be from the sheriff’s department. The caller then informs the victim they are wanted for writing bad checks and must send money to clear it all up. To make matters more confusing, the caller id reads Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department. Matthews says this is a scam known as “spoofing.” If you receive a call like this get the caller’s name and return number and then call the actual sheriff’s department.
