COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Wednesday, the gates at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds officially opened at 3:00 p.m. for the 2012 state fair. Fairgoers turned out in numbers and waited in line even before 3:00 p.m. to get in the gate. For many, the reason to come on opening day was simple, $1.00 admission. Fair officials say the reduced admission price was simply a good way to kick off the fair and to promote the tradition of the South Carolina State Fair. Patrons were also able to get traditional fairfoods like, funnel cakes, fiske fries, corndogs, the ‘Donut Burger,’ and even some newbies like, ‘The Elvis Burger.” Fairgoers also had the chance to save money on rides by purchasing the pay one price, ride all rides for just $25 at the gate, $20 at local Bi-Lo stores.
