Arrests Made in Connection with Officer Involved Shooting
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Columbia Police have arrested two suspects in connection with an officer involved shooting off Vernon Street. Shawn Maurice Pickens is charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol. A 16-year-old is also charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, Possession of a Firearm by a Person under the Age of 18. Columbia Police say the charges stem from a shooting incident that occurred on Monday, October 15, 2012 at the 700 block of Vernon Street. Two members of CPD‘s Drug Suppression Team (DST) were responding to a concerned citizen‘s emergency call about a man with a gun in the neighborhood. When the officers arrived on the scene, they say the spotted two males who fit the description of the suspects. One of the suspects allegedly presented a gun to officers at the time of the incident. The 16-year-old received gunshot wounds during the incident. His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening say police.
