South Congaree Mayor Resigns Among Other Town Officials
SOUTH CONGAREE, S.C. (WOLO) – Three top officials are stepping down in the town of South Congaree. Mayor Jerry McCormick confirms he – along with Councilman Rick Green and Town Administrator Melisha Shumpert – have resigned. Mayor McCormick also sent us a copy of his resignation letter It says, “Small town politics has its share of difficulties. But when outside agencies and a state level politician become actively involved in political affairs of a town, the process fails to work as designed…” These three resignations come almost a month after federal agents raided South Congaree Town Hall. At that time, Shumpert and Chief of Police Jason Amodio were put on administrative leave.
