SCE&G Urges, Plan for Storms Now

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — SCE&G has close to 700 lineman, both contract and permanent personnel on standby for service restoration after a storm. But, officials want you to be prepared even before severe weather strikes. According to spokesperson for SCE&G, Robert Yannity, “We’re constantly telling our customers to be prepared.” Just days into the official start of hurricane season, he cautions customers–now is the time to connect, so you can stay a step ahead of severe weather. “We encourage folks to call us on Facebook, Twitter, even youtube videos. We have clips on how people can learn about our restoration process and also get tips on how to prepare for a storm and those sorts of things.” Some 700 contract and permanent lineman are on standby to clean up the aftermath of a storm. However, Yannity says understanding what you need to do in case of a power outage, downed trees and other consequences of bad weather ahead of time, will save you time and money in the long run. “Now is the time to sign up for social media, as well as the text messaging option for people to get info on their smart phone. You can even report outages via text. Get your emergency kit together that contains medication, water and what you’ll need in case of a power outage.” For more information, go to www.sceg.com or call 1-800-251-7234.
