Body recovered from Wateree River
CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) — Officials have recovered the body of a man missing in the Wateree River since Saturday.
Officials say 44-year-old Michael Thompson of Kershaw County disappeared about 11 p.m. Saturday when his boat hit something and capsized about two miles north of U.S. 1.
Natural Resources Department Capt. Robert McCullough said a searcher found Thompson’s body around 5 p.m. Monday near the spot where the boat overturned.
Officials say a friend of Thompson’s who was in the boat with him was able to float downstream until a fisherman helped her out of the water.
Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers said an autopsy was planned Tuesday.
