18-year-old man drowns in Newberry County pool

NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) — An 18-year-old man has drowned in a private pool in Newberry County.

Authorities said LaQuan Parker Jr. was swimming with several friends Tuesday evening when they noticed he was unconscious in the pool.

Sheriff Lee Foster says a neighbor started doing CPR and paramedics and emergency room personnel were able to get Parker breathing again. But he died a short time after being moved to a hospital in Greenville.

Authorities say Parker was a 2013 graduate of Mid-Carolina High School and would have turned 19 on Thursday.
