Lexington County investigators seeking help after robberies

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — A string of robberies in Lexington County are keeping investigators on their toes, and they are asking for your help. Both the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the Lexington Police Department are reporting six robberies between May 23 and July 12. Investigators from both departments say in each incident, groups between two to five men broke into 24/7 convenience stores located on Augusta Road and Sunset Boulevard between midnight and 6 a.m. The suspects allegedly wore cloths or masks to hide their identities. Money, tobacco products, and beer were taken during the robberies. A witness reported during one of the incidents, a light-color four-door sedan was at the stores during the time of the crime, possibly a Toyota sedan or Chevrolet sedan. Investigators say the sedan has tinted windows, and there are no hubcaps on the passenger‘s side of the vehicle. A second vehicle was also reported being a burgundy or red four-door sedan, possibly a Honda Civic or Buick Century. The passenger‘s side mirror is reported to be damaged. Investigators say the robberies occurred at a Pitt Stop convenience store at 3809 Sunset Boulevard on May 23 and May 28, a Hess Express convenience store at 3006 Augusta Road on June 20, a Circle K convenience store at 2308 Augusta Road on June 23, a Kangaroo Express convenience store at 3950 Augusta Road on July 8 and a Murphy Express convenience store at 4873 Augusta Road on July 12. At about 4:15 a.m. on July 12, officers say four men entered the Murphy Express convenience store at 4873 Augusta Road in the Town of Lexington. The suspects allegedly forced the clerk at the store to open cash registers. The men allegedly stole money, cigarettes and beer. Investigators say the men fled on foot towards Dooley Road, where detectives think that the men had parked a motor vehicle. Each of the men was wearing a mask or cloth on his face in order to conceal his identity.
