Orangeburg man faces 45 counts of church vandalism
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — An Orangeburg man is in jail charged with 45 counts of vandalizing 17 Orangeburg area churches over five years.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports (http://bit.ly/18ROhtE ) that 56-year-old Bill Hiscox was arrested Wednesday.
The arrest came after a video camera recorded a man throwing rocks at a downtown church. Authorities say in one instance, a stained glass window at a church was shattered.
Hiscox could be sentenced up to 10 years on each count if he is convicted.
Hiscox told a judge at a bond hearing that he is “remorseful” and received death threats during his first night in jail. He told the judge he needed help. He said he got depressed and became “mad at God.”
