Sumter police holding gun buyback program
SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — Anyone with an unwanted gun in Sumter can trade it in this weekend for a Walmart gift card.
The Item of Sumter reports (http://bit.ly/1blYfoU ) that the Sumter Police Department is holding a voluntary gun buyback program on Saturday.
All exchanges are anonymous, and no questions will be asked. Police ask that all firearms be unloaded and transported in a vehicle trunk.
Handguns will be exchanged for $50 gift cards, and long guns get a $25 gift card. A trade-in on an assault weapon is worth a $100 gift card.
Thirty-two firearms were exchanged in 2009, the last time Sumter participated in the program.
