Jury: Sumter man guilty in arson that killed 2

SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — A jury in Sumter has found 53-year-old Timothy Dingle guilty of two counts of murder and first-degree arson in a fire that killed two children.

The Item of Sumter reported (http://bit.ly/1da81Jk ) that Circuit Judge George C. James sentenced to Dingle life in prison, followed by 30-years in prison.

The March 2012 fire killed 10-year-old Aalyiah Jackson and her 11-year-old brother Robert.

Prosecutors presented witnesses who said Dingle set fires in three separate places in Elizabeth Young’s apartment and had threatened her a day earlier. One witness testified Dingle was angry Young resisted moving in with him.

Prosecutors said Dingle knew the children were in a bedroom and setting the fire in three places meant they had no way out.
