DNR searches Lake Marion for missing boater

SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — Officials with the Department of Natural Resources are searching for a Timmonsville man missing after going boating on Lake Marion.

DNR Capt Robert McCullough tells The Item of Sumter (http://bit.ly/16pNRKf ) the man set out about noon Wednesday with his 18-year-old son on a fishing trip. McCullough says the boat encountered trouble and the men went into the water.

The younger man was able to get a life jacket out of the boat and was rescued, but his father disappeared in the water.

Authorities didn’t immediately identify the men.
