Group wants AG to advise on Haley’s reimbursements

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) âone space€one space” A government watchdog group wants South Carolina’s attorney general to weigh in on whether Gov. Nikki Haley should reimburse taxpayers for a trip to North Carolina in June. In a letter provided to The Associated Press, John Crangle of Common Cause asked the State Ethics Commission’s director to either change his mind or seek an attorney general’s opinion. Director Herb Hayden says he’s not wavering from his position that Haley doesn’t need to pay for law enforcement expenses to a June 27 fundraiser for an organization supporting North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory’s agenda. He says she must reimburse only for her own fundraisers. But Crangle contends the event benefited her as evidenced by donations she received. Hayden says he will ask board members if they want to seek an opinion.
