Labor Day Weekend Drownings in Newberry

(WOLO) NEWBERRY, S.C., —

Newberry County Deputies spent the weekend working two drownings over the holiday weekend. 

Authorities say a 42 year old Christian Pearson was walking in a creek along with his family when he went under and never resurfaced. Rescue crews found his body close to 3 hours after he disappeared.

Officials say Pearson went down near pumps in the creek that can change water levels.

Sunday afternoon Newberry officials were called to another incident, this time near Heller’s Creek. Authorities say they found the victims body around 4:30 in the evening not far from where he disappeared.

The victim in this incident has not been identified.
