COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) âone space€one space” Authorities say a man killed by a Richland County deputy during a shootout after a traffic stop had family in Beaufort County, N.C., and was wanted for assaulting a police officer in that area. Investigators said 39-year-old Mitchell St. Clair Jr. had another person’s identification on him when he was shot and killed Monday night. Authorities say a deputy pulled him over after learning the license plate on his car didn’t match the vehicle’s description. Investigators say St. Clair ran from his car and fired at a deputy chasing him. The officer was not injured. Authorities say St. Clair had a long criminal history that included several drug charges.
