Parents’ weekend set for USC in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — University of South Carolina students in Columbia have gotten fair warning to tidy up their rooms and wash those clothes. It’s parents’ weekend. University spokeswoman Megan Sexton says a record number of family members are expected to be on campus Friday through Sunday. She says about 9,840 people are expected to participate, which is 2,200 more than last year. In 2007, only 3,000 people took part. Sexton says many colleges and schools, offices and departments are hosting educational sessions, receptions and other events for the parents. The events include a Carolina Beach Bash at the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center on Friday as well as a parents’ tailgate in Gamecock Park, across from Williams-Brice Stadium before Saturday’s football game against Kentucky.
