SC home movie day feted at theater, discussion

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The University of South Carolina’s Moving Image Research Collections and the Nickelodeon Theatre are teaming up to host a local version of National Home Movie Day. The collection’s interim director Heather Heckman says the event Saturday at Columbia’s Nickelodeon on Main Street is a celebration of amateur films and filmmaking. Attendees may bring in their own movies for inspection and learn how to preserve and care for films and videotapes. The event takes is free and open to the public. Refreshments are available and prizes for films are being awarded. Film cameras, projectors and equipment will also be on display. Formats are in 16mm and VHS tape.
