COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — From the House chambers to the Columbia Rotary Club, even social media, South Carolina’s delegation is not going quiet over the government shutdown.

And neither are the citizens.

“All this stuff is bull, shutdown a government. We are the great America and they gonna shutdown our government, what’s wrong with the politicians here?,” says David Gantt of Columbia

Meanwhile in Washington, as lawmakers battled inside the capitol building Wednesday, programs like ‘Head Start’ rallied outside.

Back here in the Midlands from Fort Jackson to the United States Bankruptcy Courthouse downtown and the federal office building things were relatively quiet.

“It’s pretty vacant, I think they pretty much has the IRS cleared out and the Social Security office is working with a limited staff,” says Eric Reed, Bankruptcy Attorney

Crandall Sims reporting, “But with almost 800,000 federal workers, including some here in South Carolina furloughed… sent home without pay… we wanted to know what Midlands residents thought of the whole debacle.”

“Who do you think is at fault for the shutdown?”

“All of em’, the whole White House… the , the President, all of em,” says Gantt

Speaking of members of Congress, both Senator Lindsey Graham and Senator Tim Scott have announced they will not take salaries during the shutdown. Instead, their earnings will go to charity.

While people here at home worry about their jobs if the shutdown continues.

“Being a bankruptcy attorney with clients who are either federal employees or are getting VA disability or Social Security benefits, we’re worried about our clients being able to, you know, get their paychecks and do what they have to do as far as just paying their bills,” says Reed.
