Haley meets with SC military commanders

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) âone space€one space” Commanders from South Carolina’s major military installations say they are pinching pennies and in some cases training less in order to deal with the uncertainty brought on by recent federal budget cuts. They voiced their concerns Wednesday during a meeting with Gov. Nikki Haley in Columbia. A commander from Shaw Air Force Base says his pilots are flying less. Army commanders at Fort Jackson say they are putting off maintenance and upkeep of their facilities. A Coast Guard captain says further budget cuts will translate into fewer hours at sea. Haley told the commanders she wants to help support the military. The commanders say the recent round of government furloughs, automatic budget cuts and the government shutdown has produced uncertainty that worries them and their forces.
